Great Plains wildfires and rural property planning

Use documented 2024 events in the Texas Panhandle and North Dakota to frame practical questions about homes, grassland and working property.

Fire history reaches across open country

Two 2024 examples bring different parts of the Great Plains into focus: the Smokehouse Creek Fire in the Texas Panhandle and the October wildfire outbreak in northwestern North Dakota. They occurred in different seasons and places. Neither should be used as a prediction for every ranch, town or field across the region.

Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma, February 2024

A February 29, 2024, Texas A&M Forest Service account described the Smokehouse Creek Fire in Hutchinson County and its spread across Texas and Oklahoma. The article was an update during an active response, so its acreage and containment figures were a snapshot at that time. The cross-state event is relevant history for rural preparedness without being a test of any private service.

Northwestern North Dakota, October 2024

The National Weather Service documents a wildfire outbreak on October 5, 2024, during very high winds. North Dakota Emergency Services’ October 6 account identifies Ray, Alamo and Tioga fires in Williams County among the incidents. These are specific northwestern North Dakota locations, not a description of statewide conditions or current fire activity.

Review the working property as well as the home

For a rural site, explain how people, animals, equipment and contractors use the land. Show the relationship between maintained areas, grassland and buildings. Identify grazing, forage, water features and any areas that must be excluded from consideration. Those practical details help define a service review more accurately than total acreage alone.

Choose a focused next step

WTG can review suitable selected vegetation for planned Komodo ground pretreatment, alongside your broader maintenance and preparedness work. Request a quote with the property address, photos and priorities. Confirm the application area and any animal-use or access considerations before scheduling. Historical losses deserve respectful treatment and should never be presented as proof that a product would have prevented them.
