Narrow Gates: Preparing an Access Review for Treatment

Provide useful gate information before assuming application equipment can reach a proposed area.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Show the approach and opening

Photograph the entrance from both sides and include the approach, gate swing and nearby obstacles. If you can safely obtain measurements, identify what you measured and avoid guessing. Tell the provider about locked gates and who can authorize access, without putting codes in the initial inquiry form.

Ask about the proposed equipment

Do not assume that a passenger vehicle fitting through an opening means the planned equipment will fit. Ask WTG to review access for the actual job. Include narrow paths beyond the gate and any surfaces the owner does not want equipment to cross.

Resolve changes before arrival

If a gate must be removed, repaired or opened differently, identify who will do that work and when. Do not promise changes without the relevant permission. Keep the approved access arrangement with the treatment scope, and report new obstacles or construction before the crew travels to the property.
