Colorado Wildfire Mitigation Grants: Check Project Fit Before a Quote

Review applicant eligibility, project scope and grant timing before assuming funding is available.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Start with the current program materials

The CSFS Forest Restoration and Wildfire Risk Mitigation program supports qualifying projects through competitive grants. Read the current request for applications and confirm the applicant and project requirements. A program name containing wildfire mitigation does not mean every private property service is eligible.

Ask before incurring costs

Discuss the proposed work, approvals, timing and documentation with the grant administrator. Identify whether a local organization or other eligible entity must lead the application. Keep tentative funding separate from an award and do not assume expenses incurred at any time can later be reimbursed.

Keep the contractor proposal independent

WTG can describe its proposed vegetation application, but does not promise that a grant will pay for it. If you are comparing a larger mitigation project, separate forestry, building and application costs so the administrator can evaluate the actual activities. Confirm funding questions directly before relying on them in your purchasing decision.
