Building a Wildfire Project Funding Research File

Track program requirements and unanswered questions without treating possible assistance as committed money.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Keep one entry per program

The CSFS Natural Resources Grants Database is a starting point for finding assistance programs and their sponsors. Follow each listing to the administrator’s current materials. Record the program name, eligible applicant, proposed activity and date you checked it. A directory summary should not be your only source.

Track the unanswered questions

Write down whether your specific work qualifies, whether approval is needed before spending and what evidence is required. Assign someone to obtain the answers from the program. Keep closed, pending and awarded opportunities clearly distinguished so a planning spreadsheet does not become an accidental promise of funding.

Use proposals accurately

If WTG provides a quote, retain its actual scope and exclusions when sharing it with a funding adviser. Do not rename work to make it appear eligible. A treatment inquiry is not a grant application, and WTG does not determine assistance eligibility. Purchase decisions should reflect confirmed terms and the resources actually available to the owner.
