Windows and Wildfire: Preparing for a Contractor Review

Gather useful window information before discussing upgrades with a qualified building contractor.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Record what is installed

CSFS includes multi-pane tempered glazing in its structural guidance. Ask a qualified contractor to identify your existing windows rather than inferring their construction from appearance. List locations, approximate ages if known and any documentation left by a previous owner. Mark inaccessible windows as unknown.

Ask for a complete scope

A useful proposal distinguishes glazing, frames, installation and repairs to adjacent wall surfaces. Tell the contractor about planned siding changes or interior work that affects timing. Request the product and installation records when the work is complete. If only selected windows are addressed, make that limitation visible in your property file.

Coordinate outdoor work

Window replacement can temporarily change equipment access and where materials are stored. Share that schedule with WTG when arranging nearby vegetation review. Pretreating ground fuels does not upgrade the window assembly, and a window project does not determine which vegetation is suitable for application. Both conversations should use the same current property layout.
