Wood Chips After Tree Work: Closing the Wildfire Project

Decide what happens to chips and debris before scheduling vegetation pretreatment.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Include the disposal decision

A tree-work proposal may describe cutting without making the final location of chipped material obvious. Ask whether chips will be removed, spread or left in a pile, and show the intended location on the work plan. Do this before the crew arrives so the next project is not organized around an unexpected pile.

Inspect the actual result

After the tree work, compare the completed area with the plan. Record remaining slash, piles and access changes. If the result differs from what your wildfire adviser expected, resolve that question before treating the area as ready. Material ownership, hauling and any additional landscape work should have named responsible parties.

Update the WTG scope

Provide current photos and identify whether the remaining material is temporary. A pretreatment inquiry should not assume WTG includes chipping, hauling or treating every pile. Ask which fuels are suitable after the agreed preparation is complete. Keeping removal work separate from application helps the quote describe the property you will actually have on treatment day.
