Vegetation

Tree Service or Fire Retardant Application: Which Inquiry Comes First?

Separate vegetation removal from product application and organize the two scopes in a useful order.

By Wildfire Treatment Group.

Identify whether the landscape will change

If your main concern is removing trees, pruning branches or hauling material, describe that need explicitly. Ask an appropriate tree or forestry professional to evaluate it. A retardant application proposal does not determine whether a tree should be retained or replace an assessment of tree condition.

Define the post-work condition

Before collecting an application quote, explain what the tree contractor expects to leave. Include chips, slash, equipment routes and disturbed ground. If the scope is still undecided, tell WTG rather than estimating a treatment area that assumes one outcome. A current plan can support preliminary discussion, but final conditions still matter.

Coordinate completion

Ask who confirms preparation is complete and communicates changes. WTG can then review the remaining suitable vegetation for a defined application scope. Keep the tree-work record and treatment record separately labeled. This makes it clear what was removed, what remained and what was actually treated, without counting one service as completion of the other.
